Google Android Nation Retail Store in India

Google will be partnering Spice Global to set up its first brick-and-mortar store called Android Nation in India. The store will push the penetration level of Android devices in the country. The first store will be set up in New Delhi’s posh Select Citywalk mall later this year as per sources, reports Economic Times.

Each Android Nation store will promote and sell Android smartphones and tablets across multiple brands. The store will also serve as an Android experience centre where customers can find out more about the latest Android apps, get help from experts, download software updates etc.

Google Android Store India
This is would be Google’s second Android store after the company opened its maiden store in Jakarta, Indonesia in mid 2012. The move clearly shows Google’s clear focus on Indian market.

Speaking on the partnership, BK Modi, chairman of Spice, said “The Company’s partnership with Google is not just restricted to India — Spice Global will also push Android devices in the Middle East, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Africa. Google was also supporting Spice Global in bringing China's third largest smartphone brand CoolPad, to India — Spice CoolPad co-branded products will also be sold through Android Nation.”

Modi's son Dilip Modi will be heading Android Nation in India.

Spice Global which currently operates around 900 Spice Hotspots that sells various mobile phone brands plans to convert about 50 of the Hotspots into Android Nation stores.

It is to be noted that Google’s competitors Apple and Microsoft already have retail outlets.

Google Buys Wildfire the Marketing Company of Facebook

Google announced on 1 st August thet they acquired the Wildfire, best-known as a Facebook contest and social media marketing app.

Now Google in a great place for expand the social part of their business. It also lands them in the bizarre position of overlords of a wealth of Facebook marketing data.

The sale price was reported as $250 million, though CNNMoney said that it could really be closer to $400 million when you factor in earn-outs and employee retention bonuses.

In their official blog post on the acquisition, Google’s Product Management Director Jason Miller wrote:

"today we’re happy to share that the Wildfire team will be joining Google. Their co-founders, Victoria Ransom and Alain Chuard, launched their startup just four years ago. Since then, they and their team have built a service that helps businesses like Virgin, Cirque du Soleil, Gilt Group and Spotify manage their social efforts across numerous social websites. It’s a platform for brands to manage their pages, apps, tweets, videos, sponsorships, ads, promotions and more, all in one place.

Wildfire seems hopeful to continue their working relationship with Facebook, saying of the transition, “For now, we remain focused on helping brands run and measure their social engagement and ad campaigns across the entire web and across all social services — Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn and more — and to deliver rich and satisfying experiences for their consumers. To this end, Wildfire will operate as usual, and there will be no changes to our service and support for our customers.”

We’ll have to see about that. It’s hard to imagine Facebook allowing their top competitor to waltz into the inner workings of their social marketing and advertising programs. We asked Facebook what the acquisition means for them and they let us know they will not be commenting at this time.

The reported sale price is $250 million, but multiple sources told me that the total deal is valued at around $400 million once earn-outs and employee retention bonuses are taken into account.

The Google also scooped up Digg founder Kevin Rose and his team from Milk, an app iteration experimentation company, earlier this year. Taking on their entire talent pool was a move designed to boost Google’s social capabilities & Services. Last month, Google also snatched up with Meebo for $100 million.
